This is probably an AU, from my knowledge landscape like this never exists in rural Japan. More like the Great Canyon.

Well, I figured it's not anywhere in Japan, (not anywhere in the world, really. Not even the Grand Canyon looks like that) I was just wondering if maybe Ginko went to some Mushi world or something.

That's possible! Though, judging from mushi's nature, its dimension is always quite dark and claustrophobic, with examples like the "虚" and the manga episode "Road of Thorns".
